The hypolipidemic action of probucol: a study of its effects on high and low density lipoproteins.
This study examines the effects of probucol (1 g/day) on the plasma concentration, composition, and metabolism of low and high density lipoproteins (LDL and HDL) in eleven hyperlipidemic subjects, (seven Type II and four Type IV). The drug lowered plasma cholesterol in the Type II patients by 11% (P < 0.02) without affecting triglyceride. Both LDL and HDL cholesterol levels fell by 6% and 26%, ...

OBJECTIVES This study aimed to elucidate the role and mode of action of Sargassum subrepandum methanolic extract in management of dyslipidemia in adult female rats. MATERIAL AND METHODS Forty adult female Sprague Dawley rats were assigned into four groups: (1) lean control rats fed on standard diet, (2) dyslipidemia control fed on the atherogenic diet, (3) lean rats orally administered with 1...

The hydrolyzing actions of various preparations of the adult eel were studied on ten esters in the usual way. The results are presented in the form of curves for the relative actions and in a table for the absolute actions obtained in one complete experiment. The separation of the enzyme material in some cases into an active portion and a co-enzyme, the mixture showing greater actions on some e...

1. Erythrocytes have definite lipoidal constituents and lipoidal combinations peculiar to the species. 2. Certain lipoids and lipoidal combinations act as specific antigens. 3. The increase in serum lipase which occurs upon immunization of animals to foreign red cells is, at least in part, specific. 4. This specific lipase plays, no doubt, an important part in specific serum hemolyses.

1. The strain of Bacterium coli used in these experiments multiplies in distilled water at pH 6.0 and pH 8.0 and in Ringer-Locke solution at pH 6.0. Under all the other conditions studied the numbers decrease with the passage of time. 2. The electrophoretic charge of the cells is highest in distilled water at pH 6.0 and pH 8.0. Under all other conditions studied the velocity of migration is dec...
